First Day of School

Today was Emma's first day of school. Amy and I both took her this morning and we did surprisingly well. When Emma walked into her classroom, she, of course, acted shy and put her zingers (fingers) in her mouth like she does anytime she is uncomfortable. Amy took a few pictures and we then we kissed her goodbye and got out of there. Apparently she did pretty good for her first day. Her teacher, Mrs. Stacie, sent a note home that Emma got a little whiney around 11 because she was tired. When Emma got home from school, she had a frog puppet in her backpack that she had made. Amy has already claimed it for Emma's scrapbook, so it will be preserved for all time. It was a good day.

New Parent Orientation

Emma starts Preschool on Friday. Last night we went to new parent orientation. Other than Sam "talking" the entire time, it went good. Just to elaborate on Sam though - this is the child that I thought would never talk. He is usually pretty quiet, especially if he has his pacifier. But put him in a church sanctuary with one person talking to about 100 other people and he becomes Mr. Chatter Box. Running up and down the aisles, standing in the seats. Needless to say, Stuart took him out about 1/2 way through. Anyway, I had ordered Emma a tote bag through the school, because they recommend the smaller kids not use back packs because they are difficult for them to get things in and out of. Well, Emma's backpack was there at parent orientation for us to pick up and oh the look on her face when she saw it. She was SO excited. She carried her bag around the rest of the evening. The lady who makes the bags snapped a picture of her with her bag and sent it to me. I have never attached a picture so I hope this works.

Doctor, Doctor

Boy do the doctors office and pharmacy love us!  We are keeping them in business.  Stuart has had the flu.  Sam has had the flu and strep (he was pitiful for a couple of days).  Emma has had a cold and double ear infection.  I have had a cold for 3 weeks and had a virus for about a day and a half (not the flu though, thank the Lord).  Today Emma and Sam have both woke up with fevers so I guess we will be going to the doctor again soon.  I will be SO glad when Spring gets here and all this flu crap is gone.  Allergies will seem so minor this year.

Other than that the kids are doing great.  Sam continues to learn how to climb on things.  His favorite now is the couch.  He is trying to talk some – he says duck, quack, juice and sometimes it sounds like he is trying to say kitty.  He loves our cat.  He chases her around the house and lays on top of her.  He even likes to go head first into her side with his mouth wide open.  I keep waiting for him to cough up a hair ball.

Emma is just growing up.  She can give some of the cutest looks.  She is really developing personality.  Her latest hobbies are coloring, pushing her brother down and taking toys away from him.  We have been trying to get her to sleep in her bed all night.  One thing we tried was to make a chart and every night she sleeps in her bed all night she gets a star.  For the past 2 nights she has said, “I want to get on the couch.  I don’t want a star.”  So I guess you can say that didn’t work for us.

It's OK Mommy!

Sam has discovered how FUN it is to crawl around on the couch. Last night I was sitting in the floor by the couch while he and Emma crawled and rolled over the place – and each other. Emma kept standing up, and Stuart and I repeated many times “Emma sit down on your bottom or knees, no standing.” Of course being a 2-year old, she stood up again and began jumping and I, in a more stern voice, said “Emma if you don’t sit down I am going to spank your bottom.” She came over to me, patted my shoulder and said with the most precious look on her face “It’s OK Mommy. I sorry my scared you.”

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells!

Emma has been singing Jingle Bells for the past 2 weeks.  It is so adorable.  She has really enjoyed Christmas.  She asked me a few days after Christmas “Is Santa coming to town?”  I tried to explain that he would come again next year but of course she doesn’t understand what that means.  She did OK when we took the Christmas tree down.  I was afraid she would have a fit on us.  We had a good Christmas other than all passing around a virus.  I didn’t get to make the Hutchins (Stuart’s Mom’s) family gathering because Sam was sick.  Stuart and Emma went.  I hated to miss it because it is always so much fun – singing Christmas Carols and all the kids playing.  Oh well, there’s always next year (or this year).  Stuart and I enjoyed being off with them for a whole week.  It was fun to get to hang out and play with them.  We hated to come back to work this week but we had to.  We are looking forward to a fun weekend with his family for his cousin Ricky’s wedding.  Birmingham may never be the same.

We're still here!

Soooo we thought we would keep a blog page up to date more than we did the website because it is much easier and we have not written anything in a MONTH. We are all looking forward to Christmas. Emma is a lot of fun this year. If we pass a house or store with Christmas decorations she says “Look, Christmas.” She has watched the Polar Express at least 10 times, but now we have moved on to Rudolph or in her words “I wanta watch reindeers.” She has visited Santa twice. The second time, today at Stuart’s work, she walked in the room and walked right up to him and got in his lap. She wasn’t so sure of him the first time we saw him. He asked that she leave some carrots for the reindeer in addition to cookies for him. Sam does not like Santa!!!
